Carl Lee Winter 1947-2023
McClure Engineering regrets to announce the passing of retired Electrical Designer Carl Winter who passed away on May 9th, 2023 at the age of 76.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Carl was a part of the McClure Engineering team for over 35 years, from 1977 through 2012. He was a drafter back in the days of ink on mylar, and over the years transitioned into helping with printing blueprints (yes, BLUEprints), odd jobs, maintenance, and janitorial work around the office. Ask anyone who knew him and they would say Carl always had a good attitude and a smile on his face.
Carl brightened anyone’s day with a conversation. It didn’t matter what was going on – a difficult day or a stressful project, Carl would pop in to say hi and put a smile on your face. One of the most genuine and caring people I’ve had the pleasure of working with. – Austin Strieker, P.E.
He also had a great sense of adventure and a wonderful sense of humor (perhaps a consequence of having been born on April Fool’s Day), two qualities Bill Coad experienced firsthand. If Carl wasn’t in Colorado skiing with Bill on an annual basis, he was putting our former President in a headlock at the Christmas Eve Office Party – an event that recently retired Electrical Designer Steve Freund holds as his all-time favorite McClure Engineering memory.
Carl was a great person. He was always ready to help out. It was very rare that you didn’t see Carl with a smile on his face. – Steve Vehige, P.E.
Carl is survived by his wife of 27 years, Maria, his daughter Elizabeth, 3 grandchildren, 2 brothers, and many nieces and nephews.
