First Blood Drive of 2025

McClure Engineering celebrated National Blood Donor Month by collecting 20 units at the first blood drive of the year.

McClure Engineering’s first blood drive of 2025 was a success!

It was not only a great way to kick off the year but a great way to celebrate National Blood Donor Month, celebrated every January.

McClure Engineering collected 20 units. Since every unit collected can potentially save 3 lives, that means 60 people can benefit from this drive.

Critical Need for Blood Donors

Did you know only 3% of the eligible US population donates blood? And that the number of people donating blood through the Red Cross has decreased by about 40% over the last 20 years? Those aren’t encouraging statistics. What’s more, the winter storms across the Midwest and East Coast, and the fires on the West Coast, have significantly affected the Red Cross’s ability to host blood drives depleting their stores further.

Regular blood donations are vital for maintaining lifesaving resources, especially after national disasters have stretched our blood supply thin. Donating blood is an incredible act of kindness that can save lives. Blood transfusions are done for a variety of reasons including:

  • Burn victims
  • People with blood disorders
  • Cancer patients
  • Individuals with trauma and life-threatening injuries
  • Those needing surgery or transplants
  • People recovering from a severe hemorrhage
  • Individuals with liver failure
  • Patients with infections
  • Those with brain and nerve diseases

Odds are that if you haven’t needed a blood transfusion, you know someone who has, even if you aren’t aware of it. By spending just 30 minutes, you can make a significant difference. Join us in our efforts and find a blood drive near you by visiting The American Red Cross. Your donation matters more than you might realize!
