McClure Engineering Softball Shines at the 28th Annual McCarthy Charity Tournament

A Day of Competition, Community, and Giving Back.

In early August, the McClure Engineering Softball Team hit the fields for the 28th annual McCarthy Charity Softball Tournament, and we couldn’t have asked for a better day. Under sunny skies and with the aroma of grilling in the air, Ray Elking and his team at McCarthy hosted a fantastic event featuring a crowd-pleasing grilling competition.

Our McClure Engineering team came out swinging in pool play, winning both of our games in convincing fashion: 11 to 0 over Horner & Shifrin and 20 to 3 against YAFSTL. These victories secured us the top seed as we headed into the tournament bracket.

Bracket play delivered even more excitement and tough competition. We faced Horner & Shifrin for the second time in our opening bracket game and managed to edge out a close 5 to 4 win. In the semi-final, we matched up with KPFF, a perennial contender at the tournament. McClure jumped to an early lead and maintained momentum for an 11 to 4 win, which sent us to the championship game.

In the finals, we squared off against Lamar Johnson Collaborative (LJC). After a slow start, we held a narrow 3 to 2 advantage heading into the fifth inning. LJC found their stride and ultimately pulled ahead, handing us a 12 to 4 defeat.

Although the outcome was not exactly what we had hoped for, reaching the championship bracket for only the second time was a significant accomplishment. Finishing second place allows McClure Engineering to donate $2,000 to a charity of our choice. We are proud to announce our support for Metro East Humane Society.

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who came to cheer us on and support the team throughout the long day, especially those who stayed from start to finish. Your support means everything to us, and we look forward to creating even more memories together next year.
