Lighting Team Triumphs at the 2025 IES St. Louis Awards
Four Interior Lighting Projects Earn Prestigious Honors

McClure Engineering is thrilled to share the exciting news that our lighting team has been recognized for outstanding achievement at this year’s Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) St. Louis Chapter Lighting Awards. We are honored to have received four section awards in the category of interior lighting, with all four projects earning the coveted “Illumination Award for Interior Lighting Design, Sponsored by Edwin F. Guth.”
Honoring Edwin F. Guth’s Legacy
The Edwin F. Guth Award holds significant meaning in the lighting industry. Edwin F. Guth, who founded the St. Louis Brass Company in 1902 (later renamed the Edwin F. Guth Company) was a pioneer whose creativity and ingenuity transformed interior lighting. With a remarkable 147 patents awarded to him before his passing in 1962, Guth’s legacy is alive in every project recognized by this award. His vision prioritized not only functional illumination but also the artistic enhancement of spaces, creating environments that delight and inspire occupants.
Spotlight on Award-Winning Projects
Edison Theater – Washington University
The modernization of the Edison Theatre showcases cutting-edge DMX/RDM-controlled lighting, warm-dimming LED fixtures, upgraded power distribution, and improved emergency and aisle lighting. Motorized line sets add flexibility and safety, ensuring the theater remains a premier venue for performances and education. These enhancements provide greater control and a refined ambiance while meeting the needs of both the university and the broader community.
New Orchard Farm High School
This expansive project introduced a 242,098 square foot facility designed to accommodate 1,600 students. The lighting design emphasizes energy efficiency and adaptability, supporting flexible academic, athletic, and community spaces. By enhancing learning environments and prioritizing sustainability, the project sets the stage for future growth and development in the school district.
New City School Lower-Level Post Flooding Renovation
In the wake of severe flooding in 2022, the renovation of New City School’s garden level transformed early childhood spaces. Creative, energy-efficient lighting complements playful thematic elements like tree houses and caves, striking a balance between historic preservation and modern design. The result is a safe, engaging, and sustainable environment for young learners and the entire school community.
STL City SC Union Square Headquarters
The revitalization of the STL City SC Headquarters brought new life to a historic building, integrating advanced lighting solutions while preserving its heritage. The project supports team operations, fosters community connectivity, and has driven significant redevelopment in Downtown West. The new headquarters not only enhances quality of life in St. Louis but also contributes to a vibrant business district.
Looking Ahead
These awards reflect the dedication, creativity, and technical expertise of McClure Engineering’s lighting team. Each project demonstrates our commitment to merging functionality with artistry, improving spaces for communities, students, performers, and professionals alike. We are grateful for the recognition and inspired to continue pushing the boundaries of lighting design in the years to come.
We’d also like to give a special thanks to Jeff Hirsch, whose incredible photography helped our lighting team showcase these projects.
