Fostering Future Engineers and Paving Paths to STEM Professions

A Glimpse into McClure Engineering’s Impactful MEP Initiative: “Introduction to MEP Engineering” Sessions.

Founded in 1953 with its roots firmly planted in St. Louis, McClure Engineering is committed to contributing to our community, one aspect of which includes organizing “Introduction to MEP Engineering” sessions so local high schoolers can engage with our team members through hands-on experiences aimed at enlightening them about careers related to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).

This initiative by McClure Engineering plays a crucial role as an informative resource that aids students in making informed decisions regarding their career paths, supplementing their educational journey. Moreover, it offers a stage for building key professional connections within their peer groups and with prominent figures in the industry.

Our goal with this program is to assist participants as they forge ahead in their educational endeavors, providing a vivid picture of what a future in MEP engineering entails. We anticipate that the program graduates will be proactive contributors to society and their communities, promoting STEM-focused efforts wherever their careers may take them. Equally, we aspire to encourage greater diversity within the field by creating a stream of upcoming engineers and scientists from underrepresented communities.

We recently had the pleasure of hosting students from various schools at our offices to give them a glimpse of a MEP engineer’s daily work. Led by Principal Eric Reuther, P.E., alongside Mechanical Engineer Louis Bourgeois, P.E. and Electrical Engineer Nick Ging, P.E., the students learned about the intricacies of mechanical and electrical engineering, the role of sustainability, and its myriad applications. Post-lunch, they were taken on an office tour where they could see a few of the discussed systems in action. The visit concluded with seasoned advice for the students as they contemplate their forthcoming college careers and internship opportunities.
