Sikeston Extension Office

Lincoln University

Project Background

Lincoln University of Missouri, established in 1866 by the men of the 62nd and 65th United States Colored Infantries and their white officers, has a rich history of providing educational opportunities to African Americans. As a historically black, 1890 land-grant, public, and comprehensive institution, Lincoln University is committed to nurturing a diverse student population within a supportive environment.

Project Deliverables

To further their altruistic goals and community engagement in Sikeston, Missouri, Lincoln University embarked on establishing community outreach programs. One of the key initiatives was the establishment of the Outreach Center, which opened its doors in October 2021. The center serves as a replacement for an older, smaller building and encompasses a new 8,000 sq. ft. facility designed to support various program objectives.

The Outreach Center aims to enhance academic achievement, provide abstinence education, address childhood obesity, offer entrepreneurial information, facilitate nutritional development, and promote job preparation. The facility features dedicated office space, 3-4 classrooms, a well-equipped computer lab, a versatile multi-purpose room, a small kitchen to support culinary classes, a stage for plays and presentations, and additional ancillary spaces.

To ensure the success of this project, McClure Engineering was enlisted to provide comprehensive Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Lighting, and HVAC design services.
